Machlinec Cemetery Transcription

Zygmunt Halicki was a postman

Machlinec is a former Galizien Deutsche village in western Ukraine. It still exists although its present inhabitants are for the most part ethnically Ukrainian. I visited there in 2001 and again in 2003 and with the help of friends I transcribed some of the tombstones there. You can learn more about Machlinec here.

There are two cemeteries in Machlinec; this is a transcription of all of the legible stones in the old cemetery only. There are plenty of other stones there that are no longer readable. The new cemetery is still in use by the Ukrainian locals and there are also Galizien Deutsche graves in that cemetery too. A transcription of those stones is online here.

I didn't gather this information alone! Thanks are due to Angela & Michael Fabian, Bogdan Długogórski, Jean-Marie Rosenmeier, John Kaminski and Jolanta Bielańska.
